about

Composed by Beny Moré (1919–1963)
Arranged by Andrew Roitstein

Beny Moré, also known as “El Barbaro del Ritmo,” was born in Cienfuegos Province of Cuba but rose to significant fame during his several years living in Mexico City. In Mexico, Moré teamed up with several Cuban expatriates, including “Mambo King” Pérez Prado, to solidify the mambo as a worldwide sensation. “Bonito y Sabroso” connects people from both Cuba and Mexico. This loose translation of some of the lyrics captures the song’s celebratory essence: “It even seems like I’m in Havana…. Don’t forget that Mexico and Havana are two cities like sisters—to laugh and to sing!”

lyrics
